Gold Refined By Fire

What is value? The world tells us it’s having nice clothes, being popular, and being rich. Now, is that true, or just a sugar coated lie? God tells us that true value is found in gold refined by fire. Meaning, a lot of “dirty” gold is put into a pot which is over top of a hot fire. Have you ever sat by a fireplace? Like a real one, with wood, and you light up the wood with matches? It’s pretty hot. Now imagine doing that, for hours, with fire temperatures being way hotter than your average fireplace. Imagine 1000 degrees Celsius.

The person taking the dirt out of the gold has to sit there, near the fire, taking the impurities out of the gold. That’s like God taking impurities out of us. Making us go through trials. It hurts him too, but he knows its whats best for us!

Now, where does the fire fit into our lives? Well, i think the “fire” in our lives is difficulties. Pressure. The power to stand up under pressure without being crushed. Sure, we may cry ourselves to sleep a bit. Okay, a lot. I admit, i’ve done that a lot. But we also need to remember that God is there. We shouldn’t forget about him, especially when He’s the only one that can help.

“We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” 2 Corinthians 4:8-9.

I’ve heard a lot about bullying in the last few days, and i think it’s one of the ways God wants to test us. So is pain. Peer pressure. Dissapointment. Loneliness. When it feels like every last bit is being squeezed out of us, like a lemon. But after that comes the shine. The lemon juice, if you will. If we stay strong and close to God in those circumstances, the more he’ll bless us for it.

Gold refined by fire.

Real gold stays, but fake gold doesn’t. We have to make a choice. Are we going to stand up for what we believe in, even in difficult times? Are we the real, precious, valuable, beautiful gold God is calling us to be? Or are we a cheap substitution? Will we stay strong, like a diamond, or will we melt like plastic under pressure? God only wants the gold for his kingdom.

He wants to know who is real.

Whose faith is strong.

“Love sees perfection” is a line in one of my favorite songs. God sees who we were meant to be. Will we live up to his standard and step out of our comfort zone? As Christians, we often ask ourselves, “What can I do for God?” The answer is : WE can’t do anything. Just give ourselves over to him. Stop taking control of your own life and let God have it! I promise you, that’s the only way to become like the gold Jesus wants us to be.

After gold is refined by fire, what’s the end result? A substance that is almost pure gold (99.999 %)

“In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may result in praise, glory, and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:6-7

Will we be on fire for God?

  1. This is awesome! I’ve been having a side-tracked day, and this is making me feel better. Thx for writing!

  2. Very proud of your walk with God–it is great to see how Scripture is affecting that walk…how, at your young age, you are already seeing the value of trials and desiring the strength to endure. I am a grade 9 teacher at a Christian school, and I am going to introduce my Grade nines to your website soon! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Rebecca- you are an amazing writer, you really are inspiring

  4. Wow, we are really impressed about this article you wrote. You are such a good writer. We are so touched by your words and about God wanting people refined with fire to work for His kingdom and glory. It’s true that unrefined people are never trustworthy to do God’s work. They are still solid and full of themselves. How can God use such a person? We like the part about squeezing out a lemon and it’s commonly used as an expression of suffering in the Middle East.

  5. Great God bless i have picked some quotes for my sermon tomorroe
