Encounter. Change. So what is all this stuff about anyways. To me, it’s God saying, “Hey Beautiful, when was the last time we spent some real time together?” When I walk into the sanctuary, it’s this overwhelming blast of God’s presence. It feels good, but it also makes me feel guilty, cause I usually run away from that sort of thing. I say God, you’re too close or I’m too busy. When am I gonna get over that!
God is real, and here’s the thing — my mind says that I can only find Him in a church, that’s not true. Like Shaun said, look into the eyes of Jesus, because He is looking at you. Why do I think that God fell behind somewhere? He didn’t — I just left Him here.
Now I’m gonna be honest — this is a simple thing that I never really got until this last Friday. When the encounter session was done, I really had to go to the washroom (promise this makes sense later). So I left the room, even though I thought I should go back after and spend some more time with God and my community, even though I don’t really have the time. Now this is it, whilst I was leaving, God put this thought into my mind — you’re going to work so you can’t go back to the big stinky gym again where the session is — but hey, you don’t need to go looking for me there. I am right here, right with you, I always have been and I’m never gonna leave you, what makes you think I would?
There are lots of things that God has shown me, and will yet to I am sure, however, one thing I have learned throughout encounter. It’s not about me, or the people around me. It’s not the time to prove how good I am, or compare myself to others.
I love encounter because it’s a time, set aside to spend with God. It’s real — you can feel it. When you walk into the room — you can feel God’s presence there. But here’s the thing. Do we want to wait for weeks on end for the next encounter? No, and we don’t have to. This is one of the things that has been on my heart. God is in the church building as much as He is everywhere else. We set that time and place aside for God , but that isn’t the only place we can seek Him. We can seek Him everyday in our hearts and in our lives. When we go looking for God, He is right there and He wants to be part of our lives — each and everyone of us — each day of our lives. Yes we need to set aside time for God, but don’t you know that you never leave Him behind? We can seek God every moment of the day — He never leaves us.
