This past week of encounter has been fruitful, as always. Four times a year, we set aside this week to encounter God, hence the name. But are we willing? Willing to set aside time in our busy schedules to actually feel God?
My teacher told me that if you’re not being stretched, you’re not growing, and that is so true in our faith. But if you’re willing to stretch yourself, you make yourself vulnerable. And when that happens, you get hurt. You go into the fire to be refined as gold, until what you see, is who God made you to be — beautiful. But we usually stop before that. If you shut yourself out, if you stop feeling, you won’t get hurt. But sometimes that’s how we grow. I know that I personally like to shut my problems and hurts away so I won’t get hurt anymore. Don’t feel, won’t break. But you only hurt yourself more, there is no such thing as a lone-ranger Christian. When you wake up, you can’t see up — you’ve gone astray.
When you accept Christ in your life, you make Him your Saviour, and your Lord. How often do we forget that Jesus is, or should be the Lord of our lives. He has everything, everything under control, and you can trust in Him. He will take care of you, He loves you. So reach out to Him, please. He will be there when nobody else is. Make Him your Lord, surrender your like completely to Him.
When you search for God, you will find Him. Be still, listen.
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2) NIV
In our busy lives, when we push God aside, that’s when things crumble. We are human, flesh and we make mistakes, but when we accept God into our lives, He has the power to transform us; however, we need to keep up our end. Think of your best friend in your life, you spend time with them, no? We need to spend time with God too, how can you grow if you don’t invest and commit your life to Him? Change is frightening, but it`s good. There is no need to be scared, because God knows what He`s doing.
Great is our Lord, and abundant in power;
his understanding is beyond measure. (Psalm 147:5 ESV)
We stray away from God gradually, slowly. But it happens, it`s our nature — but it doesn’t have to be that way. God is there, and when you look up and wonder how you’ve fallen so far, He is still there reaching out. But He needs you to being willing and needs you to surrender. During encounter, I felt the weight of the world on my shoulders. I have become a victim to my schedule and become despaired. I feel like there`s nobody there who cares. And then I hear this whisper, I`m here, I’ve always been here. I love you. Come back home. That whisper, those words God showed me, they’ve been there for a long time, I just wasn’t listening. I’ve become to caught up in the way I want my life to look like and for everything to go my way, I’ve shut God out of my plans and that`s how I got hurt. I need that constant reminder that God`s in control of my life, and His will is so much better than mine, if I’d only let Him show me the way. God has so much instore for me, for you and He wants us to embrace whatever He has for us. I for one, do not want to miss out on it, but I so often do. I need to be still, listen to God and spend time with Him, bringing Him with me wherever I go. God doesn`t just exsist in the church, He is everywhere, and we can pray to Him every moment of our lives. How awesome is that?
So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10) NIV
Don`t you get tired of trying to run in life by yourself? I do. Exhausted. Despaired. That`s when you feel like giving up. So give yourself up to God, fall into His arms and let Him calm you. Be still. Let your Heavenly Father take care of you. He will fill you with joy, and give you the strength to face the day. Despite all those problems weighing you down, you’re day will be brighter yet.
When temptation comes in, be strong. Pray to God, read the Scriptures, and get someone to keep you accountable. Be willing to open up to someone about your struggles and pray together.
On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” (Luke 22:40) NIV
Jesus wants to spend time with you, He loves you. There is no greater joy then being filled with God`s presence, so why do we often run? Don`t bottle everything up, please take my word that it doesn’t work. Open up to fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, and most importantly God. Open up to Him, He knows you and He is always there for you, even when you find yourself at your lowest low. He has a plan for you, you are His creation.
