Life throws curve balls at us, we have to jump hurdles, and more often then not we find ourselves taking detours. How we react is what matters. The question shouldn’t be “why”; rather, we should ask “so what’s next for me, Lord”?
We like having our plans with everything laid out. When things don’t go according to plan, we tend to loose our balance. For example, if you were going to meet a friend in town and they cancelled, it’s gonna take you a few seconds to refocus. This applies on the big scale of life too, sometimes what God has planned isn’t the way we figured things. We gotta learn to bend. Because really, I’m pretty sure the plan belonging to the Author of the Universe, is gonna be better than mine.
The thing is, our lives aren’t really ours to begin with. We lay our lives in the hands of God, our Creator. Sometimes when things didn’t happen the way we thought they should, maybe that’s the way that God wanted things to go. So, why are we upset?
I find that often my life goes through so many stages, that I’ll fall down if I don’t set my eyes on God. Amidst the craziness, there’s always beauty in the broken. I simply need to open my eyes and look the right way.
I really love the lyrics to this song, “Nearness”.
The chorus goes:
Comforter You are to me
Shelter from the cold
Constant how You carry me
Never letting go
You are with me
When I listen to this song, I feel as though a thousand shivers crawl up my spine in sheer awe and wonder; I feel so completely surrounded by the presence of God. It’s such a reminder that God is in control, He’s all powerful.
I fell you in the stillness
I know that you are good
For me, the first time I really felt this, we were driving to visit my brother who was currently at bible college. I had two whole hours just to think, and rest. I listened to this song and my soul melted. Ever since, I’ve strived to have more of those moments.
So, amidst the chaos, where’s your stillness? Can you find God’s beauty in the broken?
