Partnering with God
The following passage was written by Zechariah and it is about a vision he had of being in Heaven with God, the angels, and Joshua. By the way, this Joshua was a high priest, not Joshua from Jericho.
Zechariah 3: 3-5 reads:
Now Joshua was dressed in filthy clothes as he stood before the angel. The angel said to those who were standing before him, “Take off his filthy clothes.” Then he said to Joshua, “See, I have taken away your sin, and I will put fine garments on you.” Then I said, “Put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him, while the angel of the Lord stood by.
First, the clothes are symbolic of the freedom we have through Jesus’ sacrifice. God takes away our sin and makes us clean. Second, imagine yourself as Zechariah, in the vast kingdom of Heaven, surrounded by angels and actually being with God! While you are there the new high priest is talking with angels. They take off his dirty clothes and dress him with clean garments, symbolizing God taking away his sin. At this point I’d be pretty quiet, watching silently in amazement. I’d probably be pretty nervous as well! But Zechariah has the boldness to interrupt what’s going on and says, “Hey, put a turban on his head!” And they do! God didn’t shake his head and say, “Nah.” but instead (in my words) He says, “Hey, I like your idea, lets do it!” Zechariah had an idea and had the boldness to bring his idea to God. And God went with it!
I’ve always like the verse Ephesians 3:12
In him, and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
Because of Jesus’ death, we can and should approach God. We can bring our ideas to him. God wants to partner with us. And that partnership will probably be different for each of us. I don’t know what I’m called to do yet, but one way to find out is to spend time with God. Pray, read His word, jam out to worship music! Explore your faith!
