God calls us all to do different acts of serving for Him–whether we want to or not.
I recently experienced God calling me. I knew what He needed me to do; only problem was that I didn’t want to do it. I was listening to a Pastor talk about neighboring and not ignoring opportunities. He began telling us to find our Samaritan, as in the person we wanted nothing to do with, a person that we possibly couldn’t stand. As he continued to describe this person, my friend and I shared a look. We both knew exactly who that was in our lives and we were terrified. How could God make us serve them? This was ridiculous. However, we both knew that we couldn’t ignore it anymore; we had to dive into the situation.
I prayed for God to give me an opportunity to do what He needed me to, and sure enough He did. I knew what He wanted me to do. And as I did it, I began to feel closer to Him, I could feel Him working within me. It was an incredible experience.
It’s easy to try to ignore what God is telling you to do. It’s easy to make up excuses as to why you can’t do it. It’s easy to just stay in the shadows instead of stepping out into His world. But it is so worth it to take the leap. Physically feeling God embody you is a sensation unlike any other. When God calls you to do something, don’t dread it, don’t groan and don’t pity yourself; celebrate it! God–the one who created the whole universe, the one who watches over the world, is talking to you! He is taking time to tell you what you need to do, and that is incredible. He cares and He knows what you are going through, and He wants to help you.
Pray to God. Ask Him to give you a chance, a chance to impact someone else, and you will be amazed at how quickly He works. An opportunity will be given to you, and you will know it. It will likely be something completely outside of your comfort zone, something you tell yourself you can’t do. But you can. God will be with you the whole time. You will simply be a body for God to work through. It won’t be you speaking, but it will be God. God will leave you in awe. And you will leave the person in awe. God’s calling may be small or it may be huge. But it will be incredible.
When God calls you, you can ignore it or you can do it. That’s a choice you need to make. However, choosing to ignore will provide you with temporary relief and long-lasting regret.
Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.”
