The Courage of Making a Difference

Sometimes I look around and see the amazing things that people my age are doing.  Maybe it’s going to different parts of the world and preaching the word of God, or it is someone writing on this website.

I look at what they are doing and I wonder how a mind small and undeveloped could come up with a concept so big.

It blows my mind that people around the world have the amount of courage they need to do everything they do only because they know it will make a difference. I can barely stand up in front of a class and present a hobby that I enjoy, while others have presented the word of God to people around the globe. I used to blame it on the fact that I was young but I see the people around me and hear 1 Timothy 4:12 it says,

“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity.”

I realized the people that I look at and notice that even though they may not know if they listen to this verse. They speak out into the world like any well-known older person only using the situations that they have come across now and have struggled with before. They present a different perspective on situations that from other sides seem to have no hope.  Anyone can make a difference in the world we just have to have the courage to do it. One of my favourite verses puts this into words. Joshua 1:9 says,

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

This verse is from when Joshua was going to lead the Israelites and didn’t think that he could do it by himself. I believe that God always has a plan for us even if we don’t know it yet. It might not be going on a mission’s trip or preaching to thousands, but He will use us to work in the lives of others, whether it is just being a presence in their lives or them noticing something different with how we act. Although we may never know the result from our story connecting with others, by just being ourselves we can help finish other stories and lead people to new places and new people. We can open them to a new community that will open their views on the world.

So all of that to say this.  I am young.  But I am also courageous.  I’ve found that, through my journey, my voice does matter.  And so does yours.

Let’s be courageous together.
